In the recent mid-term legislative elections, Milei’s party, La Libertad Avanza (LLA), secured a commanding result: around 40.84% of the vote for the contested seats in the lower house and strong gains in the Senate.
The result is described as a “turning point” for Argentina by Milei himself — he declared that this election marks the start of “the construction of a great Argentina”.
Portions of the national Congress were up for renewal: about half of the Chamber of Deputies and one-third of the Senate. That made the stakes especially high.
With this result, Milei is in a much stronger position to defend his veto power, push through key economic reforms, and reduce the risk of being blocked by the opposition.
